Fluctuart - Centre d'art urbain

Fluctuart is a free urban art centre on a floating barge moored by the Pont des Invalides in Paris’s 7th arrondissement.

Fluctuart is a free urban art centre on a floating barge moored by the Pont des Invalides in Paris’s 7th arrondissement. Its three levels bring together street art and urban art, with works by artists including Banksy, Invader and Shepard Fairey. After exploring the exhibitions, head to the rooftop bar for drinks and views of the Seine, the Grand Palais and Pont Alexandre III. The barge also hosts cultural events, from workshops and talks to screenings and performances, so check what is on before making a special trip.

Fluctuart is moored by the Pont des Invalides, near the Grand Palais, in Paris’s 7th arrondissement. It opened in 2019 as a floating centre devoted to urban art. The barge has three levels and 850 square metres of space dedicated to exhibitions and cultural activities.

The setting puts the river close to the gallery experience. Some works respond to the movement of the boat, so the art and its surroundings are linked in a way a conventional gallery cannot replicate. The open format also reflects Fluctuart’s aim of making urban art accessible to the public.

Art across three levels

The exhibitions bring together different forms and techniques of urban art, with work by pioneers and newer artists. Names associated with the collection include Miss Tic, C215, Invader, Banksy, Vhils, Shepard Fairey, Zevs and Jef Aérosol. The displays change, so a particular artist or work may not be on view during every visit.

The art is the main reason to go downstairs and through the exhibition spaces. Fluctuart’s programme can also include workshops, conferences, debates, screenings and performances. Check the current schedule before setting out, especially if you are making a dedicated trip: an event or meeting can sometimes limit access to parts of the barge.

The rooftop bar and food

Up on the roof, the bar looks out over the Seine, with the Grand Palais and Pont Alexandre III among the nearby landmarks. The terrace is a place to stop for wine, cocktails or a snack after seeing the exhibitions. In summer, the food includes poke bowls and charcuterie platters, served as informal lunch and dinner options.

The rooftop setting works particularly well around sunset, when the river views are part of the outing. The terrace is open to the sun, so plan for that on hot days. As the venue is on a floating barge, you may notice a gentle movement underfoot.
