Brookfield Place

Brookfield Place is a shopping, dining and office complex at 230 Vesey Street in Battery Park City, beside the Hudson River.

Brookfield Place is a shopping, dining and office complex at 230 Vesey Street in Battery Park City, beside the Hudson River. Its Winter Garden Atrium brings trees and natural light into a glass-roofed space, with views toward the waterfront. Browse luxury labels such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton, or stop for a meal at Le District, Blue Ribbon Sushi or the Hudson Eats food hall. The atrium’s seating and free Wi-Fi also make it a useful place to pause between Lower Manhattan sights.

The Winter Garden Atrium

The Winter Garden is the complex’s central indoor space, a glass-domed pavilion with trees, plants and flowers, including 16 indoor palms. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring daylight into the atrium and face the Hudson River. From the second-floor balcony, or the top of the main staircase, you can frame the trees and windows with the high glass ceiling.

The atrium connects two of Brookfield Place’s buildings. It gives the shopping and dining complex a place to sit between errands, meals and visits to nearby Lower Manhattan sights. Art exhibitions and live music have also been held here, though no event schedule is provided here.

Shopping and dining

Brookfield Place has more than 60 stores, with a strong concentration of luxury fashion and accessories. Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Bottega Veneta, Burberry and Michael Kors are among the labels represented. Other shops include Lululemon, Madewell and J.Crew, so browsing does not have to mean shopping only for designer goods. Entry costs nothing, making a look around an option even if you are not planning to buy.

For food, Le District and Blue Ribbon Sushi are among the named dining options. Hudson Eats is a food hall with several fast-casual counters; Dig Inn, Dos Toros, Springfield and Chopt are among the places cited there. Choose a counter for a quicker stop or sit down for a longer meal. Lunch lines can build at popular counters, and pickup shelves are a practical alternative where available.

A Lower Manhattan stop

Brookfield Place stands in Battery Park City beside the Hudson River, across from the 9/11 Memorial and One World Trade Center. The complex was previously known as the World Financial Center. It includes four postmodern office towers, with the Winter Garden linking two of them.

The complex was badly damaged during the September 11 attacks in 2001, when debris damaged the lower lobby’s granite floors and glass. A $250 million renovation and expansion followed. Today, the Winter Garden and the waterfront-facing windows offer a place to pause while exploring the surrounding area.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the complex. Seating with outlets is more limited later in the day, so arrive earlier if you plan to work. Brookfield Place also has wheelchair-accessible entrances, elevators and restrooms.
