Baldwin Beach Park

Baldwin Beach Park is a long sandy beach on Maui’s North Shore, near Paia.

Baldwin Beach Park is a long sandy beach on Maui’s North Shore, near Paia. Its broad shoreline is good for a walk, a picnic or bodyboarding when the surf suits your ability, with views across the water toward the West Maui Mountains. At the south end, Baby Beach has a reef-protected area that can be calmer for swimming; the north end also has a sheltered cove. Restrooms, showers, picnic tables and a lifeguard make it easier to spend time here, but check the surf before entering the water.

Baldwin Beach Park sits on Maui’s North Shore near Paia. The sandy shore stretches between two areas that can offer more protection from the open water: the cove beside the rocks at the north end and Baby Beach at the south end. At Baby Beach, a raised reef helps shelter an inside swimming area. Conditions can still change with wind and surf, so check the water before going in.

The main shoreline is exposed to waves and can be rough. Its shorebreak draws bodyboarders, but the conditions are not suitable for every swimmer or rider. A lifeguard is on duty at the park; follow local guidance and pay attention to warnings.

The park has more than sand. Facilities include restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic tables, barbecue grills and a covered pavilion. A grassy area and soccer field give you room to spread out away from the water, while volleyball nets are also reported on the beach. These facilities make it possible to combine a walk or swim with a picnic.

The long shoreline also suits a walk or run, though some sections have a steep slope. Views across the water reach the West Maui Mountains when the weather is clear. On Friday evenings, drum circles and informal dancing may add music to the beach scene.

Water conditions and wildlife

Wind can make swimming less comfortable, and surf conditions vary. The protected areas at either end may be gentler than the open beach, but the reef and current still matter. Check conditions before swimming or bodyboarding, and choose a spot that matches your experience.

Sea turtles are sometimes seen swimming near shore or resting on the sand. Give them room and leave them undisturbed. If parking is important to your plans, an early arrival is sensible: the lot can fill, particularly later in the afternoon and on weekends.
