Lurie Garden is at the southern end of Millennium Park, near the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and a short walk from Cloud Gate. Its planting beds and paths offer a quieter place to walk within downtown Chicago. The garden was conceived as a sanctuary for city residents, visitors and local wildlife.

The design is by GGN, Piet Oudolf and Robert Israel. Plantings include perennials, bulbs, grasses, shrubs and trees. A tall hedge divides the garden into distinct areas, including a shaded section with trees and plants suited to shade.

The planting changes with the seasons. Spring can bring tulips and daffodils, while native plants and grasses provide texture beyond the main flowering periods. Bees and butterflies are among the wildlife found among the plants.

Follow the paths and boardwalk past a water feature, then pause at one of the benches. The garden’s plantings frame views of the surrounding high-rises, giving you a different perspective on the downtown skyline. On some visits, music from orchestra practice at the nearby pavilion can be heard from the garden.
