Stromovka is a large public park in Prague 7, with tree-lined paths, ponds, open lawns and playgrounds. Once a royal hunting ground, it now draws walkers, runners, cyclists and families looking for room to spend time outdoors. Follow the paths past the water, stop for a picnic or let children play; dogs have off-leash areas too. The Prague Planetarium is inside the park, and a tram stop near it makes this part of Stromovka easy to reach. Refreshment kiosks and cafes provide places to pause.
From royal hunting ground to public park

Stromovka began as a royal hunting ground in the 13th century, during the reign of Přemysl Otakar II. The name refers to trees, and the park’s broad green spaces and wooded paths remain central to its character. It became accessible to the public in 1804.
The park has changed over the centuries. A small castle was built here around the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries; in the 19th century, the building took on its present appearance as a summer residence for Czech vice-regents. Other notable structures include an astronomical observatory, built in 1961. A flood badly damaged the park in 2002.
Paths, ponds and places to pause

Stromovka’s paths suit a range of visits, from a short stroll to a longer walk, run or bike ride. Wide routes also accommodate inline skating. Ponds, open lawns and mature trees break up the walk, with benches and playgrounds along the way. There are places to get coffee, hot drinks and other refreshments.
For a picnic, choose a spot on the grass or use one of the designated barbecue areas. Public grills are available, and some picnic areas have tables and benches. The park also has sports facilities, including basketball, volleyball and tennis courts. Dogs are welcome, with designated off-leash areas where they can roam.
The Planetarium and getting there
The Prague Planetarium stands within Stromovka, and the nearby tram stop gives access to this side of the park. Allow time to explore the grounds around it as well as the Planetarium itself. Its space-related exhibitions and projections are a separate attraction from the park paths and ponds.
Stromovka is in Prague 7, near the Exhibition Grounds. Its size and mix of paths, lawns, water and play areas make it suitable for a family outing or a stretch of outdoor exercise. If you are travelling by tram, pay attention to the stop near the Planetarium so you do not miss the park entrance you want.
