The museum presents Vietnamese military history from ancient times through the modern era. Its displays bring together artifacts, documents, photographs, maps and models, with galleries arranged to guide visitors through different periods and events. The collection includes more than 150,000 artifacts, according to the material available, and covers the country’s resistance wars and the development of its armed forces.

The emphasis is on the Vietnamese experience of conflict, including campaigns against French and US forces. Displays combine objects with historical information and personal stories, giving context to the equipment on view. English translations are reported throughout the exhibits, which can help visitors follow the chronology and explanations.

Large military vehicles and aircraft are among the most visible parts of the collection. The outdoor area includes aircraft, helicopters, tanks, artillery and other equipment, including items associated with US and Soviet forces. Visitors can approach some of the vehicles and inspect them at close range.

Two nationally recognized objects in the collection are MiG-21 aircraft and T-54B tank number 843. The museum also displays the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Determination Map. These objects connect the machinery on display with particular campaigns and moments in Vietnam’s military history.

Galleries and the Battle of Dien Bien Phu

Inside, exhibits use artifacts and visual material to explain military campaigns and battles. A presentation on Dien Bien Phu is among the notable displays, and the museum also covers earlier resistance history, including the Bạch Đằng battle. The range of material makes it possible to spend several hours moving between indoor galleries and outdoor equipment.

Some sections have been undergoing construction, and access may be limited. The museum grounds are extensive, so plan your visit around the areas open on the day and leave time to walk between the displays. Food choices on site are limited; arranging a meal before or after the visit is a practical option.
