Luggage Store Gallery

Luggage Store Gallery is an alternative art space at 1007 Market St in San Francisco’s Tenderloin. Look for the graffitied entrance, then climb a steep, colorful stairwell to the second-floor gallery. Its exhibitions give emerging artists, including local street artists, a place to show their work. The gallery also runs community activities and artist-in-residence programs at its Annex location. The building’s worn, old San Francisco character is part of the visit, while the changing exhibitions give you a reason to check what is on before you go.

A gallery above Market Street

At 1007 Market St, the entrance can be easy to overlook. Find the graffitied door and go inside; the gallery is on the second floor, up a steep, colorful stairwell. The ascent brings you from the street into an exhibition space with an old San Francisco feel.

The gallery has supported alternative art for decades, giving artists an early place to exhibit. Its exhibitions have helped launch the careers of street artists including Barry McGee and Rigo, as well as street photographer Cheryl Dunn.
