The Pacific Design Center is a three-building complex on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, known for its blue, green and red glass exteriors. Designed by César Pelli, the 14-acre campus brings together more than 70 showrooms for furniture, lighting, fabrics and home accessories, along with galleries and spaces for talks and screenings. You can walk through public areas for design and architecture inspiration, though some showrooms cater to the trade and may be less accessible without a designer. Look for public art in the lobbies and corners as you explore.

Designed by Argentine architect César Pelli, the Pacific Design Center developed in stages. The blue building opened in 1975, followed by the green building in 1988 and the red building in 2013. Their large, angular forms and colored glass make the complex easy to recognize along Melrose Avenue.

The 14-acre campus is a substantial design destination as well as an architectural one. Its buildings house showrooms, offices and event spaces, with interior and exterior public areas to explore.

Showrooms and public spaces

More than 70 showrooms present furnishings and materials for residential and commercial interiors. Products include furniture, fabrics, floor coverings, lighting, wall coverings, kitchen and bath items, and accessories. The showrooms primarily serve the design trade, so access can vary. Contact Design Services or arrange to visit with a design professional if you want help navigating them.

Public areas provide a more informal way to take in the center. Look for art in the lobbies and around the buildings, and leave time to see the outdoor spaces as well as the interiors.

Events and screenings

The center hosts design-related seminars, professional programs, exhibitions and other events. The SilverScreen Theater is used for screenings and gatherings, including private screenings in an upper-level theater. Check with the center about schedules before making an event the focus of your visit.

Restaurants, conference facilities and a fitness center are also part of the campus. The mix of working showrooms and event spaces means the PDC is an active design complex, not solely an exhibition venue.
