Euromos Ruins lie beside the D525 highway between Didim and Milas, near Milas, in Muğla. The main draw is the Temple of Zeus, whose 16 standing columns make a striking sight among the olive orchards. The site also has remains of a theatre, an agora, city walls and a Roman-period vaulted tomb complex. Restoration work is underway at the temple, including the use of new marble, so old and reconstructed sections look different. Come for the architecture and a quiet walk through this ancient Carian city.

The Temple of Zeus

Euromos Ruins
Euromos Ruins

The Temple of Zeus is the most prominent structure at Euromos. Sixteen full-length columns still stand, with capitals above them, alongside other columns that survive only in part. The temple is dedicated to Zeus under the local epithet Lepsinos, also given as Lepsynos.

Restoration work is underway, including the rebuilding of sections with new marble and newly carved Corinthian capitals. The difference between old stone and replacement material is visible. The work has drawn differing views, so visitors interested in archaeological restoration can see the project as well as the ancient fabric. Access around the temple has been restricted at times during construction.

Beyond the temple

The ruins extend beyond the main monument. Remains of the city walls, a third-century BC theatre and an agora give a sense of the wider settlement. A Roman-period complex of vaulted monumental tombs is also nearby. The theatre can be viewed from close by, though access to it has been restricted.

Olive orchards surround the site, and the Carian rock-cut necropolis lies in the foothills above Euromos. Together, these remains make the visit more than a brief stop at the temple. The site is east of the D525, between Didim and Milas and closer to Milas. A maintained gravel driveway leads from the highway to a paved parking area.
