Anadoluhisarı is a 14th-century Ottoman fortress on Istanbul’s Asian shore, at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus. Built as part of the preparations to capture Constantinople, it consists of a citadel and outer walls, though it is smaller than Rumeli Hisarı across the strait. Inside, exhibits, information panels and a short film explain the site’s history. The visit is brief, but the fortress and views across the water make it a rewarding stop. If you mainly want to see its historic outline, you can also admire it from outside.
A fortress on the narrow Bosphorus

Anadoluhisarı stands on the Asian side of Istanbul, in Beykoz, where the Bosphorus narrows. Sultan Bayezid I ordered the fortress built in the 1390s as part of the preparations for the siege of Constantinople. It was intended to help monitor and control maritime traffic through the strait.
The complex has a citadel and exterior walls. Its position opposite Rumeli Hisarı gives the two fortresses a visible connection across the water, though Anadoluhisarı is the smaller of the pair.
What to see inside

The museum displays information panels and exhibits about the fortress, alongside a short film on its history. The site is compact, so allow a relatively short visit. Restoration work has made the site easier to explore, although parts of the original structure have not survived.
From the fortress, you can look across the Bosphorus toward Rumeli Hisarı and the surrounding shoreline. If your main interest is the fortress’s appearance and setting, the exterior can still be seen without entering.
