Centro Cerámica Triana

Centro Cerámica Triana is a museum in Seville’s Triana district, set inside a former pottery factory.

Centro Cerámica Triana is a museum in Seville’s Triana district, set inside a former pottery factory. Restored kilns and the remains of the production site show how ceramics shaped the neighbourhood, while displays trace tile-making from its techniques to its changing styles. Look for geometric Islamic and Renaissance tiles, ceramic advertising panels and work by local makers. The museum also has a shop selling ceramic pieces. Its compact layout makes it a useful stop for understanding the tiles seen across Seville.

A pottery factory turned museum

Centro Cerámica Triana occupies the site of the former Fábrica de Cerámica Santa Ana. The factory was built on ground with an older history of pottery production, and the museum presents the remains and features of the site in context. Its restored kilns are among the clearest links between the building’s industrial past and its present use.

The layout also follows the relationships between different pottery trades, showing how work was organised around the factory spaces. This makes the visit about more than finished tiles: the displays connect the objects with the places and processes that produced them.

The exhibits explain the steps involved in making pottery and tiles, alongside material on the history of the craft in Triana. Clay from the Guadalquivir riverbanks was used for local pottery, and ceramic production in the area goes back to at least Roman times. The tile tradition associated with Seville developed in Triana during the Islamic period.

Displays and video introduce the work behind the finished pieces, including accounts narrated by people from the industry. Take time with the written information if you want to follow the production process and understand how ceramic work became part of the neighbourhood’s identity.

Tiles, kilns and factory objects

The museum’s collection brings together kilns, pottery and tiles from different periods and styles. Look for geometric Islamic designs and Renaissance examples, as well as ceramic advertising panels made for brands including Pirelli and Singer. Upstairs, a separate display area focuses on tiles; there are also exhibits outside the building.

The collection helps explain why ceramic decoration is so visible in Seville’s streets and buildings. Before leaving, you can browse the shop for ceramic pieces. The museum’s exhibits and historic setting provide a focused introduction to the craft, whether you are interested in how tiles were made or in the finished designs.
