Beside the Atlantic in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín is a concert hall and performing arts venue designed by Santiago Calatrava. Its sweeping white roof rises like a breaking wave, with curves that change in the seafront light and make the building a striking stop for architecture and photography. Join a guided walk to see parts of the interior, or plan around a concert, opera, dance or other event to experience the hall’s acoustics. The ground-floor cafe has a terrace overlooking the water.

A wave beside the Atlantic

The Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín stands on Avenida de la Constitución, beside the sea in Santa Cruz. Architect Santiago Calatrava designed its sweeping white forms, dominated by a high, curved roof that projects above the main hall. The building opened in 2003 and has become one of the capital’s defining landmarks.

Its sculptural outline is often compared to the Sydney Opera House. From the outside, walk around the building and look at how the arc shifts against the water and sky. The seafront setting gives the structure a different look as the light changes, especially near sunset.

Inside the auditorium

The venue is home to the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and hosts concerts, opera, dance, theatre and other cultural events. Its programme includes classical and contemporary music, as well as jazz and performances in other styles. The main hall is known for its acoustics; a live performance gives you a chance to hear the building in use, not just see its exterior.

A smaller chamber hall is also part of the venue. If you are planning a visit around a performance, check the programme and ticket details on the auditorium’s website. The calendar includes different kinds of events, so it is worth checking what is on during your stay.

Guided walks and a cafe stop

Staff-led guided walks let you explore parts of the building when there is no event. They are organized every two hours, and the visit can include areas inside the auditorium. The walk costs €5; check the current arrangements and book ahead through the venue before setting out.

The ground-floor cafe has seating and a terrace overlooking the water. It is a handy place to pause for coffee or cake after walking around the building. The venue has wheelchair-accessible entry and restrooms.
