Mirador de Unamuno is a mountain viewpoint in Artenara, one of Gran Canaria’s highest villages. From here, you can look toward the island’s striking volcanic formations, Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga, and see a metal statue honouring writer and philosopher Miguel de Unamuno. A short walk to the nearby Christ statue adds another vantage point over the mountain scenery. The open-air viewpoint is accessible at any time, though early morning or late afternoon brings softer light and fewer people.

A viewpoint in Artenara

Mirador de Unamuno sits in the mountain village of Artenara. The viewpoint honours Miguel de Unamuno, the Basque writer and philosopher who visited Gran Canaria. A statue by Manolo González depicts him contemplating the surrounding scenery.

The outlook takes in the island’s volcanic terrain, including Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga. The dark, jagged ridges and upright rock formations give the landscape a distinctive profile.

The walk to the Christ statue

A walk up to the Christ statue gives you another place to look across the mountains. The area is exposed to changing temperatures: conditions can be hot at lower elevations and cooler in the mountains. The viewpoint is open around the clock, and its entrance is wheelchair accessible.
