Casa de les Punxes, also called Casa Terradas, is a Modernista landmark on Avinguda Diagonal in Barcelona’s Eixample. Josep Puig i Cadafalch designed it in 1905, giving the building six pointed towers and a medieval-inspired silhouette. A visit can include a timed audio tour about the house and the legend of St. George, with interactive projections and access to the rooftop and its towers. Look closely at the façade’s stained glass, ceramics, ironwork and sculpted details. Check what areas are open when arranging your visit.

A Modernista house with a medieval outline

Casa de les Punxes stands at Avinguda Diagonal, 420, in Barcelona’s Eixample district. Its other name, Casa Terradas, refers to the family who commissioned the building. Architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch completed it in 1905, shaping it as a single development from three existing buildings.

The name means “House of Spikes,” a reference to the pointed tops of its six towers. Their castle-like outline sets the building apart from the surrounding streets. At closer range, look for the varied materials and ornament on the façade: stained glass, ceramics, ironwork and sculptural details. Floral decoration adds another layer to the design.

Inside the house and on the rooftop

The visitor experience has included a timed audio tour, with doors opening as the tour progresses. An interactive corridor uses projections of fish and floating leaves before the route moves through rooms telling the story of the house and the legend of St. George. The format links the building’s history with the Catalan Modernista details around you.

The rooftop route lets you see the towers from close up and look out over Barcelona. Access to parts of the building has changed, so check which areas are included when you arrange a visit. On summer Fridays from 20:00, Nits amb Ritme has brought live artists to the terrace.
