On Znamenka Ulitsa in Moscow, the Gallery of artist Aleksander Shilov occupies a mansion dating from the early 19th century. Its collection centres on Shilov’s realistic paintings, especially portraits that capture fine detail. The rooms are arranged around themes, with portraits of older people and war participants alongside still lifes and landscapes. A room of graphic drawings is a particular point of interest. The collection changes as Shilov gives new works to the city, so the display is regularly updated.
