Along the Castello waterfront

Riva degli Schiavoni runs along the lagoon in Venice’s Castello district, from Ponte della Paglia toward the Arsenal. The waterfront avenue was built on dredged silt. Its position beside the water gives the walk open views across the lagoon, including toward San Giorgio Maggiore.
Ponte della Paglia also puts Doge’s Palace within reach. From the promenade, continue toward the Arsenal to leave the broad waterfront behind and follow the narrower streets of the city.
