Spiaggia di Cefalù is the town’s main beach, beside the medieval centre of Cefalù on Sicily’s northern coast. Its golden sand and clear water make it a good place to swim, snorkel or pause after exploring the old town. From the shore, you can look back towards Cefalù’s houses and rugged hills. Beach clubs line the sand, while public sections provide space to spread out your towel. The seafront promenade is worth a walk even when the weather is not right for swimming.

Beach beside the old town

Spiaggia di Cefalù
Spiaggia di Cefalù

Spiaggia di Cefalù stretches along the edge of the town’s medieval centre. The sandy shore looks back towards Cefalù’s houses, with rugged hills visible beyond them. Its position makes it easy to combine a swim or time on the sand with a walk through the old town.

The promenade above the beach has restaurants, bars and ice cream shops. Even outside beach weather, a walk along the seafront gives you a view of the sea and the shoreline.

Public sand and beach clubs

Beach clubs line parts of the shore, and public areas offer a place to settle in without using their facilities. Arrive early if you want to claim a public spot before sunbeds spread across the sand. For chairs, umbrellas and bathroom access, you can pay to use a beach club.

The beach can get crowded, particularly when locals visit at weekends. A weekday visit is a practical choice if you want more room. Bring your own snacks and drinks if you would rather not buy from vendors walking along the beachfront.

Swimming and exploring the coast

The clear water and gentle waves make the beach suitable for swimming. If you have snorkeling gear, take it along to look for fish in the water. You can spend a few hours here or make a full day of the beach and town.

For a longer walk, one route passes the Medieval Washhouse of the Cefalino River and the beach before reaching Bastione di Capo Marchiafava, about 1.5 miles one way. The route can continue for roughly another mile along Via Giudecca and Via Presidente towards Torre Caldura.

Pair the beach with Cefalù’s historic centre

If you arrive with time to explore, visit Cefalù’s old town before heading to the shore. The cathedral and cobbled streets are among the stops in the medieval centre, where you can also pause for an alfresco lunch. The beach makes a natural end to a day of walking, or a place to return to after exploring the town.
