Parc Floral de Paris

Parc Floral de Paris is a botanical garden and public park in the Bois de Vincennes, in Paris’s 12th arrondissement.

Parc Floral de Paris is a botanical garden and public park in the Bois de Vincennes, in Paris’s 12th arrondissement. Opened in 1969, it brings together thousands of plant varieties, landscaped paths, pavilions, ponds and a fountain. Look for the Japanese bonsai garden and seasonal displays: tulips bloom in spring, while dahlias take focus in autumn. Peacocks roam the grounds, and summer brings open-air jazz concerts. With play areas and space for picnics, the park suits families and anyone who wants a quieter stretch of green in Paris.

A botanical garden in the Bois de Vincennes

Parc Floral de Paris opened in 1969 as part of an international garden festival. It occupies a large area of the Bois de Vincennes, in the 12th arrondissement, and forms part of the city’s botanical garden alongside Parc de Bagatelle, the Arboretum and the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil.

The park’s layout takes inspiration from Japanese gardens and the landscaping of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Pavilions, planted areas and water features shape the walk through the grounds. Its collections include more than 3,000 plant varieties, with seasonal displays changing the colors and character of the garden over the year.

Flowers, bonsai and water features

The flower displays vary by season. Tulips are a spring highlight, while dahlias draw attention in autumn. Irises also have a prominent place in the collection, alongside camellias and rhododendrons. The Garden of Four Seasons contains 1,200 varieties of perennial plants, arranged to show interest throughout the year.

The Japanese bonsai garden is another reason to make time for a slow walk. Elsewhere, a man-made lake and a monumental fountain provide a change of scene from the planted paths. The park’s open areas and varied landscapes also provide habitat for birds; 60 nesting species have been recorded there.

Concerts and family activities

Parc Floral hosts open-air music events in summer, including the Paris Jazz Festival and Festival Classique au Vert. Children’s activities include play areas and a zip line, and the grounds also have space for picnics and walks. Peacocks roam freely around the park.

The park is large enough to combine a garden visit with time outdoors. You can follow the paths between the plant collections, stop at the ponds and fountain, or settle in for a picnic. The seasonal displays mean that a visit in spring will look different from one in autumn, so choose your timing around the flowers you most want to see.
