Panorama October is a war museum in Nasr City, Cairo, dedicated to the wars between Egypt and Israel, with the 1973 war at its center. Outdoors, tanks, fighter jets and captured weapons stand on the grounds. Inside, a large circular painting shows the Egyptian army crossing the Suez Canal and breaking the Bar Lev Line, with audio from the war playing alongside it. Three indoor halls and short films are included in the ticket. The evening show, with light effects on the building exterior, is the most distinctive way to see the site.

The 1973 war and the museum

Panorama October is dedicated to the wars between Egypt and Israel, and most of its story centers on the October War of 1973. The site is in Nasr City, on the eastern side of Cairo, and it is run by the Egyptian military.

The museum works on two levels. Outside, the military equipment of the war is on show. Inside, a building of circular shape holds the main painting and the halls that tell the story in order.

The panorama

The large painting inside is the centerpiece of the visit. It shows the Egyptian army crossing the Suez Canal and destroying the Bar Lev Line, the Israeli defensive line along the canal.

Audio from the war accompanies the picture, so the scene feels closer than a still image would. The painting takes up most of the room, and the sound and light make it the part of the visit most visitors remember.

Outdoor displays and captured weapons

On the grounds around the building, you will find Egyptian tanks, fighter jets and artillery pieces. Several types of weapon used in the war are shown together, so you can compare them.

The displays also include weapons seized from Israel during the fighting. The outdoor part is open to the air and has little shade, which is why cooler hours suit it best.

The evening light show

In the evening, light effects play across the outside of the building while the show runs. The lights make the building a clear subject for photographs, and this is the most striking time to see the exterior.

Since the night show is part of the appeal, many people plan the visit for after sunset and keep the morning or afternoon for the indoor halls and the outdoor equipment.

Perguntas frequentes

Is there an entry fee?

Yes. The entry ticket includes access to the indoor exhibitions and the short films.

Are the videos in English?

Ask about English subtitles before you watch. If they are not available, you can hire a local guide to translate.

Is it better to visit in the evening?

Evening suits many visitors because the outdoor displays are cooler and the building lights up for the night show. Check show times before you go, since they change through the day.

Is the museum hot to visit?

Much of the military equipment is outdoors, and hot days make the sun uncomfortable. Visit in cooler hours or the evening.
