The route to the top follows a spiral staircase with 287 steps. There is no elevator, and the stairway is narrow enough that people going up and down may need to pass carefully. Take the ascent at your own pace and stop for a breather when you need one.

The clockwork mechanism is visible inside the tower as you climb. At the top, benches surround the clock system, giving you a place to rest and look at its workings before heading back down.

The tower route also brings you close to Zikmund, a bell of historical importance and one of the largest in the Czech Republic. It dates to the 16th century. Its presence adds a close-up detail to the visit beyond the view from the upper level.

In Prague Castle’s Third Courtyard

The tower stands in the Third Courtyard of Prague Castle, where St. Vitus Cathedral dominates the space. The courtyard also contains a granite monolith and entrances to the Old Royal Palace.
