Goltz-Kinský Palace

Goltz-Kinský Palace occupies the eastern side of Old Town Square. Its pink-and-white stucco façade, roofline statues and decorative details give it a lighter appearance than the more restrained Baroque façades nearby. Sculpted ornaments and balconies reward a closer look from the square.

The palace was built between 1755 and 1765 on the site of older buildings with medieval foundations. It was commissioned for Count J. A. Goltz and later belonged to the Kinský noble family, whose name the palace still carries. The Rococo design is associated with architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer.

Below the palace, restored Romanesque and Gothic cellars are open to the public. They preserve visible remains of the medieval structures that preceded the palace. Visiting the cellars alongside the galleries gives you a look at two different periods of the building’s history.
