Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace stands beside Charles Bridge in Prague’s Old Town, with Baroque and Rococo interiors behind its understated exterior. The preserved dance hall is a highlight, with ceiling frescoes and a connection to the film Amadeus, which was shot in the palace. Upper-floor exhibitions change, and windows along the way offer unusual views over the surroundings. It makes a quieter cultural stop close to one of Prague’s busiest sights; check which rooms are open before you go, as reconstruction has affected access.

A palace shaped by several periods

The building’s story reaches further back than its Baroque appearance. Its foundations date to the Romanesque and Gothic periods, and the site was later rebuilt in the Renaissance style before the Baroque palace took shape. Rococo and Second Rococo changes followed, leaving a mix of architectural details rather than a single, uniform style.

The palace has four wings. Its setting on Karlova, directly by Charles Bridge, puts it close to a busy route through the Old Town, though the building itself is easy to miss from the street.

The dance hall and film locations

The Baroque dance hall is the palace’s most splendid and best-preserved space. Its ceiling frescoes draw the eye, and the room is among the palace interiors associated with Amadeus, filmed here by Czech director Miloš Forman. If you know the film, look for familiar scenes as you move through the palace.

Exhibitions are held on the upper floors, with displays changing over time. Look out of the windows during your visit for views that feel distinct from the streets around Charles Bridge. The palace also has a courtyard with a small coffee place.
