Brisbane Riverwalk

The Riverwalk connects New Farm with Howard Smith Wharves, where it meets a riverside boardwalk leading towards the CBD and City Botanic Gardens. Its route runs above the river, opposite the eastern side of Kangaroo Point, and passes views of the city and Story Bridge.

The path was destroyed in Brisbane’s 2011 floods and rebuilt in 2014. The new route keeps the suspended design and separates pedestrians from cyclists. Its flat surface also suits running, scooting and rolling.

Start at Riverview Court, near the river end of Merthyr Street, or join from Howard Smith Wharves. From the New Farm end, the path continues towards New Farm Park; from the city side, you can carry on along the riverside boardwalk. For a longer outing, connect the walk with the City Botanic Gardens or Story Bridge.

The riverfront at Howard Smith Wharves has bars and restaurants, including Felons and Greca. Another option is to make a round trip or combine the walk with a CityCat ride to New Farm.
