Union Station

Seattle’s Union Station was built between 1910 and 1911 for the Union Pacific Railroad and the Milwaukee Road. It was first called Oregon and Washington Station, after a Union Pacific subsidiary. Passenger service ended in 1971, and the building later became an office space and event venue.

The station sits in the International District, close to Pioneer Square. Its location makes it easy to combine a look inside with a walk toward the waterfront or the nearby stadiums.

The Great Hall is the main reason to step inside. Its broad, barrel-shaped ceiling rises above a spacious interior, with mosaic tilework and natural light giving the room its distinctive character. The restored hall retains historic features from the station’s railroad days.

Tables in the hall provide a place to sit or meet. The building also hosts events, so access to particular spaces can depend on how the site is being used.
