Hosfelt Gallery

Hosfelt Gallery is a free contemporary art gallery at 260 Utah St in San Francisco’s Potrero Flats. Its changing exhibitions bring together emerging and established artists, with work spanning different disciplines. The white-walled, light-filled rooms suit installations and new media as well as other forms of art. Past shows have included a Frankenstein exhibition and a Recology art exhibition. Check the gallery’s website before you go to see what is currently on view or to plan around an artist talk or special event.

A gallery for changing exhibitions

Hosfelt Gallery presents artists at different stages of their careers, including both emerging and established names. Its exhibitions change, so the work on view depends on when you visit. Past shows have included a Frankenstein exhibition and a presentation of Recology art.

The gallery has shown artists working across disciplines. That range makes the current exhibition worth checking before you set out, especially if you have a particular artist or kind of work in mind. The gallery’s website lists upcoming exhibitions.

Light, space and new media

The gallery’s white walls and floors give the rooms a bright, restrained feel. This setting can suit works that depend on light, projection or careful attention to the surrounding space.

Jim Campbell’s light installations are one example of the new-media work shown here. His pieces explore links between media and memory. The gallery has also presented exhibitions described as provocative and inspiring, so allow time to look closely at the work rather than treating the visit as a quick pass through.
