Abalone Cove Shoreline Park sits on the Palos Verdes coast in Rancho Palos Verdes, with bluff-top trails, rocky shore and tide pools. At low tide, pools reveal small marine life, including sea anemones; clear days can bring views of Catalina Island. The park includes Abalone Cove and Sacred Cove, but access to both beaches and the trails down to them was reported closed from July 2024 because of land movement. Check current access conditions before setting out, and wear sturdy shoes if exploring rocky areas when they are open.

The park covers 30 acres on the Palos Verdes coastline and has two beaches, Abalone Cove and Sacred Cove. Trails cross the bluffs and descend toward the shore, where rocky formations and tide pools draw visitors. Portuguese Point and Inspiration Point are among the bluff-top viewpoints.

At low tide, small sea creatures become easier to spot in the pools, including sea anemones. The shoreline is rocky, so protective footwear is useful when beach access is open. Clear weather can bring views across the water to Catalina Island.

Check access before you go

Beach access and all trails leading to the beaches were reported closed from July 2024 until further notice because of accelerated land movement in the Portuguese Bend Landslide complex. Conditions can affect whether a planned shoreline walk is possible, so check the park's current closure information before travelling.

The park entrance and parking area are at 5970 Palos Verdes Drive South in Rancho Palos Verdes. Parking security concerns have been reported; leave valuables at home or consider another way to get there.
