Gatorland

Gatorland is a wildlife park and theme park on South Orange Blossom Trail, south of Orlando.

Gatorland is a wildlife park and theme park on South Orange Blossom Trail, south of Orlando. Its boardwalks and trails take you past alligators and crocodiles, with birds, capybaras, snakes and other animals elsewhere in the park. Live shows bring you close to the action, while the breeding marsh, aviary and petting zoo offer quieter ways to explore. Families can add a train ride, splash pad, climbing wall or zip line. Set aside much of the day if you want to see the shows and try several activities.

A long-running Florida wildlife park

Gatorland opened in 1949 and remains family-owned. The park combines wildlife exhibits with rides and live entertainment, with alligators and crocodiles at its centre. Its 110 acres include a breeding marsh, trails, boardwalks and animal areas. The setting gives you more to do than watch the shows: you can move between reptile habitats, birds and other wildlife, then make time for the park’s activities.

Alligators at different stages of life are part of the experience, from hatchlings to large adults. Rare white alligators are also among the animals you can see. Crocodiles, snakes, turtles, birds, capybaras and wild cats add variety beyond the park’s namesake reptiles.

Shows, marshes and animal encounters

Live demonstrations include Gator Jumparoo and gator-wrestling shows. At Jumparoo, alligators leap for food, giving you a clear view of their movement and strength. The shows also provide an educational element alongside the spectacle. Check the schedule when you arrive so you can plan the rest of your visit around the performances.

The breeding marsh and elevated walkways let you look across the alligator habitat while staying on the paths. The nature trails pass water and tree cover, where turtles and birds can also be seen. In the aviary, birds move freely through the space. The petting zoo offers a different kind of animal encounter for children.

Rides and activities

For a change from walking, take the Gatorland Express train around the park. The Stompin’ Gator Off-Road Adventure is another ride option, while zip lines cross above alligator habitats. Other activities include a climbing wall, rope bridge and splash pad. These extras make it easy to build a more active day, though they can take time away from the exhibits and shows.

Some animal experiences are separate add-ons, such as feeding alligators or holding a baby alligator for a photo. Make arrangements early if one is a priority, as spaces can be limited. A trainer-for-a-day experience is also available. Activities and encounters are not all part of the same visit plan, so decide which ones matter most before you arrive.

Planning a visit with children

There is enough to fill several hours, particularly if you combine animal viewing with shows and rides. Families can use the playground and splash pad for a break between exhibits. The grounds are largely outdoors, with boardwalks and trails, so weather can shape the day. An umbrella or raincoat is useful in case of a Florida shower.

Food is available in the park, and picnic areas give you the option of bringing lunch. Strollers and mobility scooters can be rented to make getting around easier. Gatorland has accessible entrances, parking, restrooms and seating. Arriving early can help with parking, especially during busy seasons. Give yourself extra time if you want to fit in both scheduled shows and paid add-on activities.
