What the park is

Sandcastle Waterpark stands on Blackpool's South Promenade, close to South Pier and Pleasure Beach. It opened on the site of the former South Shore Open Air Baths and is now the UK's largest indoor waterpark, with a tropical climate of about 84°F (29°C) all year.

The water is the main draw: a wave pool, a river with rapids, a lazy river and a range of pools for all ages. The park has a restaurant by the pool, plus cafes, snack bars and arcades, so the day can be spent on site.

Adults can also use the Sea Breeze Spa, a retreat for guests aged 18 and over. It has a sauna, steam room, salt inhalation room, aromatherapy room, heated foot spas and heated loungers. Access needs a separate Waterpark and Spa Admission.

Slides for different nerves

Master Blaster is the headline ride. It is billed as the world's longest indoor rollercoaster waterslide. Sidewinder and Aztec Falls add sharper drops, and Aztec Falls sends riders plunging into a dark descent. Montazooma and Thunderfalls are family slides for groups who want to ride together.

Younger children have gentler options. Shimmering Shallows is a calm lagoon, Treetops Water Chutes are built for small riders, and the Caribbean Storm Treehouse is designed for all abilities. The Ushi Gushi Action River carries swimmers along on a steady current, while the Typhoon Lagoon Wavepool makes waves for anyone who would rather float.

Many visitors spend part of the day on the faster slides and part on the river and the lagoons.

Planning the visit

Book online before you travel. Every guest needs an online booking, and sessions are about three hours long. Check the session times on the website before you go.

Queues grow in busy periods, and holiday periods are the busiest. Some slides have height or weight limits, so check each one before queuing. Lockers are available on site.

The car park fills quickly, so arrive early or take the tram, which stops close to the park. The park lists wheelchair accessible entrances, elevators, restrooms, seating and parking, plus an assistive hearing loop.
