Kathmandu Photo Gallery is a photography space in a restored pre-war shophouse on Pan Road, in Bangkok’s Silom area. Its collection includes black-and-white travel prints by owner Manit Sriwanichpoom, alongside rotating exhibitions by local and international photographers. The calm, airy rooms also hold books on spirituality and adventure, plus other art books for browsing. Come for the photography and take time to look around the shophouse itself; weekday visits are a good choice if you prefer a quieter visit.
A gallery in a pre-war shophouse
Kathmandu Photo Gallery is at 87 Pan Road in Silom, close to Wat Kaek Hindu temple. The privately owned gallery is housed in a restored pre-war shophouse. Photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom opened it with the idea of recalling a traditional photo print shop, including antique-green walls.
The rooms have an open, airy feel. Photography is the focus, but the gallery also has books and souvenirs, and has hosted weekend yoga classes.
Photographs and books
The permanent collection includes prints from Manit Sriwanichpoom’s travels, including black-and-white photographs made over the course of his career. Rotating exhibitions bring work by photographers from Thailand and abroad into the gallery, so the displays can change between visits.
The in-house bookshop specialises in spirituality and adventure, alongside other art books. If you want to take home a small print, a letter-sized photograph is listed at 60 baht. Check the gallery website for current hours before you go; it has been closed on some visits.
