Mirador La Llanía is a viewpoint on El Hierro, set among the laurel forest in the island’s highlands. The walk passes moss-covered trees and ferns, and clouds can drift through the forest and around the lookout. On a clear day, you can see the northern part of El Hierro, the Gulf of Frontera and, in especially clear conditions, La Palma. Several marked circuits let you choose a walk of about two to four hours, including an adapted route suited to families.

Walking through La Llanía

The viewpoint sits within the laurel forest of La Llanía. Marked circuits pass through woodland with ferns and moss-covered trees, and the route is known for its changing cloud cover. Three walking options are described, taking about two, three or four hours. The La Llanía route is also described as an easy loop of roughly 4.5 miles, or about 7.2 kilometres.

An adapted route makes it possible for families to walk together. Choose a circuit according to the time and distance you want to spend on the trail.

Views from the lookout

At around 1,350 metres above sea level, the viewpoint looks over the forest and the northern part of El Hierro. The Gulf of Frontera is visible from here, and La Palma may appear on the horizon when the sky is clear.

Clouds can gather around the viewpoint and then lift, changing what you can see during the day. If panoramic views are your priority, go when conditions are clear. If the forest is clouded over, the trail still passes through the laurel woodland.
