The Telefèric de Montjuïc carries you above Barcelona from Avinguda Miramar to Montjuïc Castle, with views of the city, port, coastline and Mediterranean along the way. The ride takes about five minutes, so plan time at the top to walk around the castle area and enjoy the hilltop outlooks. You can also spot l’Alcalde viewpoint and the Cinto Verdaguer and Joan Brossa gardens from the route. The cable car is a convenient alternative to walking uphill, though its short journey may feel brief for the fare.

The Telefèric de Montjuïc links Avinguda Miramar with the upper part of Montjuïc, where the castle stands. Its route is about 750 metres, and the ride takes roughly five minutes. Spacious cabins carry you over the hill, with views across Barcelona, the port, the coastline and the Mediterranean.

The aerial perspective is the main reason to take the cable car. As the cabin climbs, you can also pick out green spaces on Montjuïc, including the Cinto Verdaguer and Joan Brossa gardens. l’Alcalde viewpoint is another landmark along the route.

The cable car brings you close to Montjuïc Castle, whose elevated position gives you another vantage point over the city and sea. The historic surroundings invite a walk after the ride, so allow more time than the ascent alone requires. Entry to the castle is not included in the cable-car ticket and must be paid for separately.

If you want to avoid the uphill walk, the cable car makes the climb part of the visit. On hot days, that can be a welcome alternative to walking. The ride is short, however, so consider how much time you want to spend exploring the hilltop before deciding whether it suits your plans.

Tickets, queues and comfort

Tickets are available online and at the station. Booking online can make the purchase more convenient, but it does not guarantee you will walk straight onto a cabin: there may still be a queue to show a QR code or exchange a ticket. Allow time for this step, particularly later in the day, when lines can build.

Cabins have room for a large stroller, which can make the trip easier with young children. They may feel warm, and strong winds can make the ride daunting if you are uneasy with heights. Take water and snacks if you plan to linger at the top, where convenient food and drink options may be limited.
