Jardins de Pedralbes is a formal garden park on Avinguda Diagonal in Barcelona, with ponds, fountains, statues, winding paths and a bamboo grove. It occupies the grounds of a former royal residence, and the palace stands at the far end of the gardens. Come for a quiet walk, birdwatching or photographs among the greenery; ducks and other birds gather by the water. Some lawns are roped off, so plan to enjoy the paths and benches rather than count on sitting on the grass.
From royal residence to public gardens

The gardens occupy land that once formed part of the Spanish royal family’s residence in Barcelona. King Alfonso XIII used the palace as a residence during visits to the city, and the property passed to Barcelona in 1931.
The palace remains at the far end of the grounds. The gardens provide a setting for the former royal estate, with paths leading past water features and planted areas.
A formal garden with several influences

The garden design combines French and British influences. Landscape designer Rubió i Tudurí worked on the project, alongside architects, engineers and other specialists. A long wall covered in bougainvillea borders the grounds.
At the main entrance on Avinguda Diagonal, a wrought-iron gate opens onto a pool with a marble female figure. From there, paths lead through the gardens, past ponds, statues and fountains. Some lawns are roped off, so access to grassy areas is not guaranteed.
Palace and events
The former palace is now associated with Barcelona’s Museums of Decorative Arts, Ceramics and Interior Design. The grounds have also hosted concerts and fashion shows. Summer music events have taken place in the gardens, with performances on a main stage and a smaller village stage.
Event schedules can change, so check what is on before planning a visit around a performance. On a regular visit, the ponds and planted paths give you space for a walk, a pause to watch birds or a photo stop.
