Korenmolen de Distilleerketel stands by the harbour in Delfshaven, a historic district of Rotterdam. The mill was built in 1727 to grind malt for distilleries, and today it is the only surviving malt mill of Delfshaven’s five. The present building is a reconstruction completed in 1986 to 1987, after the original was largely destroyed by fire in 1940. Inside, you can learn about its history on a guided tour and climb for views across Delfshaven. A small shop sells flour and handmade cookies.

Delfshaven once had five malt mills. De Distilleerketel is the only one left, beside the harbour at Voorhaven 210. It was originally built in 1727 to grind malt for local distilleries.

The mill was largely destroyed by fire in 1940. The building standing today is a reconstruction, completed in 1986 to 1987 to restore the landmark to Delfshaven’s skyline. Its historic appearance therefore belongs to a rebuilt mill, not an untouched 18th-century structure.

Guided tours explain the mill’s past and its place in the surrounding district. If you climb the stairs, you can look out across Delfshaven. There is also a small shop with local products, including flour and handmade cookies. Check that the mill is open before visiting, and bring cash for entry and purchases.
