Porto Montenegro

Porto Montenegro is a luxury marina and waterfront complex in Tivat, on the Bay of Kotor.

Porto Montenegro is a luxury marina and waterfront complex in Tivat, on the Bay of Kotor. It sits on the site of a former naval base and shipyard and now has 450 berths for vessels from about 6 metres to superyachts up to 250 metres long. The promenade runs past palm trees, cafés, restaurants and boutiques, and the pale modern buildings give it a Mediterranean look. Come for a slow walk among the yachts, a meal by the water, or an evening stroll once the lights are on.

The site was a naval base and shipyard before it became a marina. The development is described as the former Arsenal shipyard and naval base, and it covers about 24 hectares.

The area was converted into a luxury marina and yachting hub in 2006. It has since become a popular stop for yacht owners and luxury travellers on the Adriatic.

The marina and the yachts

The marina has 450 berths for vessels from about 6 metres up to superyachts of 250 metres. Porto Montenegro was built mainly for superyachts, and it was the first marina in the world to receive the TYHA Platinum Award from the British Marine Association.

Walk the piers in the morning or at dusk to see the boats up close. The yachts, sailing boats and ships are most striking when the light is low.

Shops, cafés and the promenade

The promenade is lined with palm trees, cafés, restaurants and boutiques. The luxury shops include watch and jewellery brands such as Bvlgari and Rolex, along with the Fashion Gallery, which carries designers such as Balenciaga, Valentino and Jacquemus.

Smaller shops sell linen clothing, handmade jewellery and resort wear. Many restaurants here are open for lunch and dinner, so the walk can end at a table by the water.

Events and the Naval Heritage Collection

The Polo in the Port tournament is an annual event held at the marina's arena, with top international players. Gran Turismo has also been held here.

The Naval Heritage Collection is in the complex and shows the area's naval past. Its exhibits are expected to be significantly reduced, so check before you go.

Beaches and getting around

The marina lies next to the town centre. The coastal promenade continues to the Donja Lastva and Kalimanj neighbourhoods.

Ponta Seljanovo beach is very close, with pebble shores and cafés. Waikiki Beach Resort is also nearby, with a more organised beach club setup.
