In central Iglesias, Sardinia, the Mineral Art and Mineralogy Museum brings together almost 3,800 minerals, rock specimens and fossils from around the world. Its three halls also trace the area’s mining past through tools, machinery and about a hundred archaeological finds linked to mining, from Nuragic and Phoenician-Punic times to the Roman, Pisan and Aragonese periods. A guided visit can add context to the collections and includes a training tunnel. Tours are mainly in Italian, so ask about English before you go.

The museum’s collection includes almost 3,800 mineralogical, petrographic and fossil specimens gathered from Sardinia and other parts of the world. Three large halls bring together these natural-history displays and objects connected with the region’s mining industry.

About a hundred archaeological finds add a human timeline to the collection. They are linked to mining activity from the Nuragic, Phoenician-Punic and Roman periods, as well as the Pisan and Aragonese medieval eras.
