Galleria Henry

Galleria Henry is a former mineral-transport tunnel near Buggerru on Sardinia’s southwestern coast. A guided visit takes you through level, gravelled mine passages and explains the area’s mining history, with coastal views along the way. The tunnel was dug in 1865 for a small train carrying minerals from inland mines towards the coast. Tours may include a train ride, but the route can also be walked. A tunnel built for moving minerals

Galleria Henry is part of the mining history of the Buggerru area in southwestern Sardinia. Dug in 1865, the tunnel was used by a small train to carry minerals from inland mines towards the coast. The route is about 1 kilometre long and runs through the old Planu Sartu mine workings.

The tunnel is a remnant of Buggerru’s years as a mining centre. Its passages and old mine carts give a sense of the infrastructure once used to move ore through the area.

The visit follows mine passages with a guide who explains the site’s history. Depending on whether the train is running, part of the tour may be by train or on foot. The walking route is level and gravelled, and visitors describe it as manageable rather than strenuous. Comfortable shoes are useful.
