Roe & Co opened in 2019 inside the former Guinness power station on James’s Street, in the Liberties. The building’s industrial character remains part of the visit: old power-station details sit alongside copper pot stills and modern distilling equipment. A large window gives a view into the production area, and a colourful mural depicts the distillery and its neighbourhood.

The name recalls George Roe, a prominent figure in Dublin’s whiskey trade. The original Roe distillery operated in the Liberties, where whiskey production helped shape the area alongside its neighbour, Guinness. The modern distillery connects that history with present-day production, without presenting the old and new facilities as the same operation.

What happens on a visit

A guided tour explains the distillation process and introduces different whiskey styles. The experience also covers the science and history of Irish whiskey, with interactive elements along the way. You can choose an activity centred on flavour or on blending, depending on whether you would rather build a cocktail or explore how whiskey blends come together.

The Flavours Experience introduces five pillars of flavour before you make a cocktail to suit your preferences. The Blending Experience combines a guided visit with whiskey tasting and the chance to create your own whiskey Old Fashioned. These are distinct ways to take part, so check which experience you are booking before you go.

The bar and the wider setting

The Power House Bar is a natural place to pause after the tour and try a Roe & Co cocktail. The cocktail menu uses the distillery’s spirits and bespoke ingredients, and staff can help you choose a drink. There is also a shop with Roe & Co bottles and branded items such as glasses.

The distillery is close to the Guinness Storehouse, making it possible to plan both visits in the Liberties. Its garden and the preserved power-station features add context before or after the tour. For a more relaxed visit, choose a weekday or an off-peak time, and book in advance because tour places can fill.
