Jericho Beach sits west of Kitsilano in Vancouver’s West Point Grey neighbourhood. Its shoreline meets a park with broad grassy areas, walking paths and places to picnic. The beach is a quieter alternative to some of Vancouver’s more central shorelines, though sunny summer days draw more people.

The eastern stretch is for swimming and general beach use. On the western side, sailboats and windsurfers share the water near Jericho Sailing Centre. This division helps you choose where to settle: head east for a swim, or west to watch activity on the water.

Water sports and outdoor activities

Jericho Sailing Centre is the base for sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding, with rentals and lessons available. Kayaking is another option, and the shoreline gives paddlers routes toward Spanish Banks or back toward the city. Conditions matter: the beach is exposed to north and west winds, so choose a suitable day before heading out on the water.

On land, you can walk or cycle along the beachfront paths, follow trails toward Spanish Banks, or use the park’s sports areas. Volleyball, soccer, tennis and baseball are among the activities available in the wider park. Birdwatching is also a reason to take a slower walk along the shore.

Views and wildlife

From the beach, look across English Bay toward downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains. The open view is especially appealing as the sun sets, when the skyline and mountains form the backdrop. Sailboats on the water add another point of interest, and the grassy park offers space to pause between walks or activities.

Rabbits are often spotted around the park’s grassy areas and bushes. Keep an eye out as you walk, but give wildlife room and avoid disturbing it.

A short history

The beach takes its name from Jeremiah Rogers, who operated a logging camp in the area in the 1860s. The site later had a military use, including flying-boat hangars. Today, the beach and park are known for outdoor recreation, with Jericho Sailing Centre keeping sailing and wind sports central to the western shore.
