David Lam Park is a waterfront green space at 1300 Pacific Blvd in downtown Vancouver, beside False Creek and close to Yaletown. Its broad lawn, cherry trees and views across the water make it a good stop for a picnic or an easy walk along the seawall. In spring, the blossoms draw visitors, and festival events can bring performances and activities to the park. There are also playgrounds, sports courts, walking and cycling paths, public art and a water feature with shallow pools and fountains.

David Lam Park sits beside False Creek, a short walk from Yaletown-Roundhouse SkyTrain station. Its lawn and walking paths meet the waterfront, where the seawall connects the park to the city’s broader walking and cycling routes. Across the water, glass residential towers frame views of False Creek and the Vancouver skyline.

The park is named for David See-Chai Lam, who served as British Columbia’s 25th lieutenant governor. The surrounding Yaletown neighbourhood has changed substantially since it was selected as a site for Expo 86. Today, the park’s open space offers room to pause among the area’s high-rise buildings.

Cherry trees bring a seasonal draw in spring. The blossoms line parts of the walking routes, and the park has several spots for photographs, including an arch of flowering branches. During the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, events have included Japanese dance, crafts, games and performances. Some activities take place after dark, so check the festival programme if you are planning around a particular event.

Public art gives the walk another point of interest. One work, made from columns, dates to 1996 and was created by Don Vaughan. Its stones invite people to step from one to the next. Along the waterfront, sculptures provide additional places to pause, with the water and skyline as a backdrop.

Courts, playgrounds and a place to picnic

The park’s broad lawn suits a picnic, a quiet break with a book or informal games such as soccer and Frisbee. Benches and picnic tables are available around the grounds. Takeout from a nearby cafe or food from a food truck can make an easy picnic meal; food trucks have been present during park visits and events, but their availability can vary.

Families can use the playground, which has swings and slides, and the water feature, with shallow pools and fountains that children can enjoy in warm weather. Sports facilities include basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, as well as a baseball field. Public washrooms are also available. The range of facilities makes the park useful for more than a brief blossom stop, though weekend parking can be tight.
