Springbrook National Park Canyon Lookout

Canyon Lookout sits in Springbrook National Park, in the Gold Coast hinterland, and is about 30 metres from the car park. From the viewpoint, you can see the cliffs of the Springbrook Plateau, Twin Falls and Rainbow Falls, with Gold Coast buildings and the ocean beyond on a clear day. The accessible viewpoint makes this a straightforward stop for visitors who do not plan a long walk. For a longer outing, trails such as the Twin Falls Circuit and Warrie Circuit lead deeper into the park.

Views from the plateau

Canyon Lookout faces the eastern cliffs of the Springbrook Plateau. Below and across the escarpment, Twin Falls and Rainbow Falls are visible from the viewpoint. On a clear day, the view stretches over the Gold Coast, with Surfers Paradise and Coolangatta among the coastal landmarks. The ocean lies beyond the city and the park’s ridges and valleys.

The cliffs and valleys were shaped by erosion, landslides and weathering over millions of years. Those processes continue to alter the terrain. Clouds and wind can change the feel of the lookout, and haze can limit how far you see along the coast.

Access and nearby walks

The viewpoint is about 30 metres from the car park and is wheelchair and stroller accessible. That makes it possible to see the escarpment and waterfalls without taking on a longer bushwalk.

For more time on the trails, the Twin Falls Circuit and Warrie Circuit offer walking routes through the park. Wear sturdy footwear, and take care on wet or slippery rocks around the waterfalls. Snakes may be encountered on the trails, so give wildlife space and leave it undisturbed.
