Pinchuk Art Centre

Pinchuk Art Centre opened in 2006 in Kyiv’s Bessarabka area, close to Bessarabsky Market. The centre is dedicated to contemporary art and presents work by Ukrainian and international artists. Its exhibitions change regularly, so the subjects and formats on view depend on the programme when you visit.

The centre occupies a six-floor building, with exhibition rooms on four floors. The programme has included solo and group shows, as well as work by both established artists and emerging Ukrainian talent. Rather than a permanent collection laid out in the same way year-round, the galleries give space to temporary exhibitions and new projects.

What to see in the galleries

Expect a mix of approaches and materials. Past displays have included ink drawings, photography, sculpture made with neon bulbs and metal bars, video, light-based work and larger installations. Some pieces address Ukrainian identity; others connect local concerns with international themes. The range means that one room may feel very different from the next.

Works are accompanied by explanations in Ukrainian and English. If an installation or performance is hard to interpret, exhibition moderators are available to answer questions. An audio guide is another option for visitors who want added context as they move through the shows. The exhibitions are regularly refreshed, so check the centre’s website to find out what is on during your Kyiv trip.

Events and a break upstairs

The centre’s programme extends beyond gallery displays. It has hosted lectures, workshops, talks, film screenings and music or literature events, as well as the PinchukArtPrize, an award for young artists from Ukraine and the CIS region. These activities add ways to engage with contemporary culture beyond a walk through the exhibition rooms.

A cafe is located on the upper floor, where you can take a break after seeing the galleries. The centre also has a bookshop and library. With free entry and a central location near the market, it can fit into a day exploring this part of Kyiv without requiring a separate ticket budget.
