En resumen

Go in June or September for warm days, open beach clubs and fewer crowds. July and August have the warmest sea and the busiest roads and rooms. May is quiet and green, October has closing parties and cooler water, and winter is mild but mostly closed. Book early for July and August, and check opening dates for May and October.

The seasons at a glance

For most trips, the best time to visit Ibiza is June or September. The sea is warm, beach clubs and restaurants are open and the island is less crowded than in July and August. May is quiet and green, October has cooler water and the closing parties, and winter is mild but most of the island is shut. The Ibiza travel guide covers the island itself, and the wider Spain travel guide shows how it fits with a mainland trip.

Ibiza runs on a tourism calendar more than a weather calendar. Most big venues open around late May and close around early October, and many hotels, restaurants and beach bars follow the same pattern. That means a month with good weather can still be a poor month to visit if the places you want are closed. Check opening dates for April, May, October and November before you book.

The table below sets the seasons side by side. Weather means typical conditions, crowds means roads and beaches, and prices mean the general level of room rates.

Month by month

January and February are quiet and mild, with showers and bright days. The island is green, almond blossom appears around late winter and most clubs and beach bars are closed. Ibiza Town stays open for locals, so it works for a city break, but not for a beach week.

March and April bring a gradual reopening. Days warm up, but the sea is cold and the wind can be strong. Many hotels and restaurants open in time for Easter, and walking and cycling are pleasant. April is a good month for a rural stay in the north, if you do not need a swim.

May is the start of the season. Beach clubs begin to open, the sea is cool and the roads are quiet. It is a good month for sightseeing and walking, and for travelers who want a lower price band and do not mind a chilly swim. June brings warmer water, long days and a full calendar of venues, with crowds that build through the month.

July and August are peak. The sea is warm, venues run at full strength and the roads and coves fill by mid-morning. September keeps the warm water and the open venues, with fewer crowds, and is often the best balance of the year. October brings closing parties and cooler evenings. By November, most of the island has shut for the winter.

Which month suits your trip?

The best month depends on what you came for. If clubs are the point, late June to early September gives you the full calendar of venues, with the biggest nights in July and August. Check each club's own site for its opening and closing dates, because they vary by year, and book tickets and transport ahead. If you want beach clubs and warm sea without the peak crowds, go in June or September, when the roads are lighter and the best tables are easier to book.

If you want quiet, walking and low prices, go in May or October. The coves are empty, the north is green or golden and hotels have space, but some beach bars and restaurants keep short seasons, so check opening dates before you commit to a base. For a family trip, June and September are the usual choices: the sea is warm, the days are long and school holiday prices have not yet hit. A base such as Santa Eulària or Talamanca suits families at either end of summer; see where to stay in Ibiza for the full comparison.

If you want a longer stay with a day on Formentera, aim for June or September too. The ferry runs a fuller schedule in the warm months, and the island's beach bars and bike rentals are open. Our four-day Ibiza route fits any of those months, with the Formentera day moved to the calmest forecast. Whatever month you pick, keep a spare half day, since wind can delay boats and spoil a beach at short notice.

Finally, remember that sea and air feel different. The sea lags behind the air, so a warm day in May can still bring a cold swim, while a mild evening in October can still follow a warm one in the water. If a swim matters, aim for the stretch from late June to early October.

Planning by what you want to do

Match the activity to the month rather than the month to the island. Swimming is a June to early October plan, with August and September the warmest. Beach clubs and big nights run from late May or June to the closing parties in early October, and the calendar varies by venue, so check each one. Walking and cycling are best from March to May and again in October, when the air is mild and the north is green or golden. Sunset tables in Sant Antoni and on the west coast are best from late April to October, but the best positions sell out in July and August.

Families do well in June and early July or in September, before and after the school-holiday peak. Couples looking for calm do well in May, late September and October. Anyone who wants the old town and the markets without crowds can go in March, April or November, as long as they accept a cold sea and shorter opening hours. If your trip includes Formentera, plan it for June or September, when boats run a full schedule and the beach bars are open.

Mistakes to avoid

The first is booking late May on the assumption that the island is fully open. Some venues open for the season in stages, so a hotel or beach club you saw on a website in July may not yet be open in May. The second is expecting a warm swim in April. Sunny days can feel like summer, but the sea is cold, and wind can make a beach unpleasant.

The third is booking the peak weeks on a tight budget: August rooms, car hire and sunset tables all cost their yearly high, and a car can be hard to find at any price. The fourth is planning a November trip around beach clubs. They are shut, and many hotels close, so build the trip around Ibiza Town, walking and local life. The last is leaving the Formentera ferry to the day you arrive; book your seats when you book the room.

Spring: quiet and green

Spring is the quietest and most affordable time to see the island, but you need to accept limits. The sea is cool, some hotels and restaurants are closed and the weather can change quickly. In return, you get empty coves, green hills and a version of Ibiza that few summer visitors see.

Plan around the wind. Spring winds can make boat trips and Formentera ferries less reliable, so keep your schedule flexible. If you want a beach, aim for a sheltered cove in the south or the east, and bring a windproof layer for the evenings.

Spring is also a good time for the north and the interior, which are at their greenest. A hire car is useful, because buses are infrequent. See our guide to where to stay in Ibiza for bases that work out of season, and check hotel opening dates before you book.

Summer: heat, crowds and club season

June to August is the heart of Ibiza, and it is also when Formentera applies its vehicle rules: in 2026 they ran from 1 June to 30 September, with prior authorization required to bring a vehicle across. Beach clubs, restaurants and nightlife run at full strength, the sea is warm and every ferry and bus runs a full schedule. It is also the time of year when the roads are busiest, parking at coves is hardest and rooms cost the most. Book rooms, boat trips and any big club night early.

June is the best month in summer for most travelers. The weather is warm, the days are long and the crowds are lighter than in July and August. July and August are for those who want the full party atmosphere and do not mind heat and queues. Go to beaches early or late, use boats to avoid road traffic and keep a siesta in the plan.

The Balearic tourist tax applies to overnight stays in summer, and it is not always included in the headline price. Our guide to tourist taxes in Europe explains how these charges work, so you can budget for them. If you plan to move around, compare options in our getting around Spain guide, and get an eSIM so that ride and booking apps work from the airport.

Autumn: warm sea, closing parties

September and early October are the best autumn months. The sea is still warm after summer, venues are open and the roads are quieter. Rooms are easier to find and prices drop slightly from the August peak. It is a good time for beach days and for exploring the island without crowds.

The closing parties in early October mark the end of the club season. After that, many venues and hotels close, the sea cools and evenings become mild. It is a good time for travelers who want a quiet trip and a bargain, as long as they check what is open.

By November, the island is mostly closed to visitors. Ibiza Town remains open, and some hotels and restaurants stay open year-round, but the beach clubs and most of the nightlife are shut. If you want to travel in November, choose a base in the old town and a rural stay with a kitchen.

Winter: mild, quiet and mostly closed

Winter in Ibiza is mild compared with northern Europe. Days can be sunny and pleasant for walking, and the island is green and quiet. Almond blossom appears around late winter, and the interior and the north are good for hikes and cycling.

It is not a beach holiday. The sea is cold, most beach bars and clubs are shut and many hotels close for the season. Prices are the lowest of the year, and the island feels like a local place again. If you want winter sun and warmer water, the Canary Islands are the usual choice; compare them in the Canary Islands guide.

Winter is also the best time to see Ibiza Town without crowds. Dalt Vila is quiet, museums are easy to visit and restaurants cater to locals. If you travel in winter, travel insurance is worth having for flight and ferry disruption, since services run on a reduced schedule.
