Batumi Boulevard is a seaside promenade that runs for about 7 kilometres along the Black Sea coast in Batumi, Georgia. It was laid out in the late 1800s as a park for strolling between the town centre and the beach, and the original park is still part of it today. Modern sculptures, fountains, benches, cafés and bike lanes now line the route. Locals and visitors walk, run, cycle or sit by the water here, and the boulevard is liveliest in the evening, when the lights come on.
From a seaside park to a 7 km promenade

The boulevard began as a park laid out in the late 1800s beside the sea. Its first purpose was simple: to give holidaymakers a pleasant route from the town centre to the beach.
Over time the promenade grew to around 7 kilometres. It is commonly divided into a new section and an old section, and the original park still forms part of the route.
What to see along the way

Modern sculpture, coloured fountains and light sculptures sit among the older park. Colonnades and a Japanese garden are also along the route.
Benches and loungers are placed along the promenade. Cafés, beach bars and small shops line the seafront, so there is always a place to sit. Tennis courts and playgrounds are among the facilities on the way.
The Ali and Nino statue
A moving metal sculpture shows a man, Ali, and a woman, Nino, slowly passing through and around each other. Ali is an Azerbaijani Muslim and Nino is a Georgian princess, and the pair is taken from a tragic love story.
The piece is read as a symbol of love and of friendship between different nationalities. It stands in Miracle Park, at the far end of the walk from the Japanese garden.
The Alphabetic Tower and the evening show
The Alphabetic Tower is decorated with the Georgian alphabet. Its observation deck gives panoramic views over the city and the sea.
After dark, the Dancing Fountains put on a show of light and water, and the promenade is lit in the evening. This is the part of the day when the boulevard feels most lively.
Getting around and facilities
Bike lanes run along the route, and scooters use the track too. City bikes can be rented nearby, and family bikes are available for cycling with children.
The boulevard has picnic tables, a barbecue grill, a public restroom and playgrounds. Free public Wi-Fi is available on the boulevard. The entrance and the parking lot are wheelchair accessible.
