The apartment, where he spent his final years, retains its original furniture. Exhibits cover his personal life and well-known plays, and guided tours include access to the apartment. The on-site theatre also stages Ibsen’s plays, adding a performance option to a visit focused on the writer and his home.
Ibsen’s apartment and the museum
The museum is at Henrik Ibsens gate 26 in Oslo. Its central draw is the apartment where Henrik Ibsen spent his last years. Original furniture remains in the rooms, giving the visit a close connection to the playwright’s domestic life.
Exhibits also cover Ibsen’s personal history and influential plays. A guided tour brings these subjects together and includes entry to the apartment. Tours begin on the hour, so plan your arrival around that schedule.
Theatre and practical details
The venue includes a theatre where Ibsen’s plays are performed. This gives you another way to engage with his work beyond the museum exhibits; check the theatre’s programme if you want to attend a performance.
Admission is paid, and the Oslo Pass includes free entry. The museum has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and restroom. Visiting without access to the apartment leaves out a key part of the experience, so aim for a tour that includes it.
