Crocoparc is a crocodile park and botanical garden about 15 minutes by car from central Agadir. Its main draw is more than 300 Nile crocodiles, some over three metres long, living around a large lagoon in a jungle-style setting. Follow the signposted route past the crocodiles, monkeys, free-roaming iguanas, tortoises and snakes, then spend time in the tropical gardens. Plan a half day, and include a feeding session and a stop on the shaded terrace.

Crocoparc

The Nile crocodile is a protected species. Hunting wiped the animal out in the wild across much of Morocco during the 20th century, and the wild population was lost in the 1970s after hunting and drought. Crocoparc opened in 2015 as an educational facility with the aim of helping to conserve the species.

The park is the first crocodile park in Morocco. Its layout is meant to bring visitors close to the animals, with signs along the route and staff on hand to explain them. Crocoparc also supports Moroccan conservation projects and education.

The route through the grounds

Visitors enter through a giant crocodile head at the entrance. The main crocodile habitat sits in the middle of the park, and a circuit of signs and viewpoints leads around it. Crocodiles swim and bask around a large lagoon, and young crocodiles are kept in a nursery area.

Other animals share the grounds. Iguanas roam freely and will walk up close to visitors. A turtle area holds large desert turtles, a small monkey enclosure holds marmosets, and a snake enclosure holds pythons and anacondas. A zip line runs over the crocodile enclosure for anyone who wants a higher view.

The gardens cover about 4 hectares and hold more than 300 exotic plants from around the world. A cactus garden, a wetland area with frogs and fish, waterfalls, ponds and sensory paths add variety to the walk.

Feeding sessions and children's areas

Feeding sessions take place several times a day, around noon, 3 pm and 5 pm. At feeding time the adult crocodiles fight over chunks of raw meat. Arrive a little early and stand near the zip line for a good view.

The park suits children well. Two play areas let children climb, swing and explore. Colouring stations, papyrus craft and henna are available, along with other craft activities. Shaded spots and picnic areas give families a place to rest.

Food, shop and getting there

The restaurant has a terrace with shaded umbrellas. The menu is reasonably priced, and the kitchen will adjust dishes for dietary needs, including vegan requests. The café serves pizza and drinks. A gift shop is on site.

Staff speak English and French. The entrance, restrooms, seating and parking are wheelchair accessible.

Crocoparc is a short drive from Agadir, about 15 minutes by car from the city centre. A free shuttle bus runs from downtown, and taxis can be arranged. Agree the fare first if you take a taxi.
