Dolphins Beach, or Playa Delfines, is a wide public beach at kilometre 18 of Cancún’s Hotel Zone. White sand, turquoise Caribbean water and an open view make it a good place to spread out on the shore, stroll or watch the waves. Take a photo by the large Cancún sign, then head to the lookout for a view along the coast. Free shaded palapas are available, and lifeguards watch a marked swimming area. Waves and currents can be strong, so check conditions before entering the water.

The beach and its setting

Dolphins Beach
Dolphins Beach

Playa Delfines sits at kilometre 18 of Cancún’s Hotel Zone. Its broad strip of white sand faces the Caribbean, with no hotels lining the shore. That open setting gives the beach a different feel from the hotel-backed stretches farther north, and leaves plenty of room to walk along the water or find a place on the sand.

The sea’s colour and the long coastal view are part of the appeal. Before going down to the beach, stop at the lookout to take in the shoreline. The large Cancún sign is another popular photo stop.

Shade and facilities

Free palapas provide shade on the sand. They are first come, first served, so arriving earlier gives you a better chance of finding one. A playground and restrooms are listed among the facilities, and lifeguards are present. Bring your own food and drinks: there are no vendors on-site, though a store is a short walk away.

Swimming and waves

Playa Delfines is open to the sea, and waves can be powerful. A marked swimming area is watched by a lifeguard, but conditions can still be rough, with strong currents and rip tides. Check the beach flags and follow lifeguard guidance before swimming. If the water is too rough, you can stay on the sand or enjoy the waves from the shore.

Getting there and planning your visit

The beach is on Boulevard Kukulcan at kilometre 18, in the Hotel Zone. Parking is available, but spaces can fill quickly after 11 am, so an early arrival can make parking easier. Bring sun protection, water and anything you will want to eat during your stay. The beach is public and free to visit.
