Navagio Beach Viewpoint looks down on Shipwreck Beach, a cove on Zakynthos’s west coast near Volimes, with turquoise water framed by steep cliffs. From the clifftop, you can see the beach and the wreck of the MV Panagiotis, which ran aground there in 1980. The viewpoint is reachable by car, with limited parking nearby. For warmer light and fewer boats in the bay, plan for late afternoon. Stay on the safe side of barriers and wear shoes with a good grip on uneven ground.

Navagio Beach, also called Shipwreck Beach, lies in an exposed cove on Zakynthos’s west coast, beyond the village of Volimes. The coaster MV Panagiotis ran aground in the area on October 2, 1980, during a storm with poor visibility. Its wreck remains the defining feature of the view from above.

The viewpoint gives you a broad look across the cove, its vivid water and the surrounding cliffs. The shoreline is also visible from boats, but access to the beach itself has been restricted because of falling stones. Check local access conditions before planning a visit to the beach.

Choosing when to visit

Daylight brings out details in the water and cliffs; later in the day, the light turns warmer over the sea. The 5 to 7 pm window is a useful choice for sunlight direction and fewer tour boats in the bay. The viewpoint is popular, so parking can be busy. Limited spaces are available nearby.

The drive from Zakynthos Town takes about 45 minutes. Wear shoes suited to uneven ground, and keep a safe distance from the cliff edge. If visiting around noon, take sunscreen and water with you; the snack bar can be expensive.
