Myrtos Beach

Myrtos Beach is a broad, white-pebble beach on Kefalonia, about 30 km from Argostoli.

Myrtos Beach is a broad, white-pebble beach on Kefalonia, about 30 km from Argostoli. White cliffs and green hills frame its vivid blue water, and a viewpoint partway down the winding access road gives you a striking first look. Explore the caves at one end of the shore, or come for the changing colours around sunset. Conditions can shift from calm water to waves, and the seabed drops off sharply, so take care when swimming.

The view from the road

Myrtos Beach

Myrtos lies on Kefalonia’s northwestern coast, around 30 km from Argostoli. The road descends from the mountain route in a series of tight bends. A viewpoint partway down gives you a look at the pale shore and blue water below before you reach the beach.

White cliffs rise behind the curved strip of pebbles, with green vegetation above them. The contrast between the cliffs, hills and sea is what gives Myrtos its distinctive look. The beach also appeared in the 2001 film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.

Swimming and sea conditions

The beach is covered in smooth white pebbles, and caves at one end make for a different spot to explore and swim. The water can be calm, but conditions also bring waves, and the seabed becomes deep close to shore. Check the wind before setting out and take care entering the water, especially when the surface is rough.
