Pigalle Basketball

Pigalle Basketball, also called Playground Duperré, is a free outdoor court on Rue Duperré in Paris’s Pigalle area.

Pigalle Basketball, also called Playground Duperré, is a free outdoor court on Rue Duperré in Paris’s Pigalle area. Set between apartment buildings, it pairs basketball with bold, changing mural designs. Stop to watch players of different ages, take photos or join a game if space allows. The court is narrow and slightly sloped, so it suits a casual shootaround better than a full-size playing experience.

A court between apartment buildings

The court occupies a former parking space between two buildings on Rue Duperré. Its design brings graphic blocks of colour to a compact urban sports ground, with murals that have changed over time.

The project was painted in 2017 through a collaboration involving French fashion brand Pigalle, Ill-Studio and Nike. It was created as a place for children to play, and also draws people who come to photograph the artwork.

Playing at Playground Duperré

The court is free to use, and players of different ages gather for practice and informal games. The gate has often been left unlocked, and a machine with three basketballs has been reported there; bring your own ball if you prefer.

The playing area is narrow and slopes slightly. If you join a game, check how the players are treating the boundary walls, since local rules have included keeping the baseline wall out of play.
