Le Moulin Blute-Fin is a historic windmill in Montmartre, at 5 Hameau des Artistes in Paris. Built in 1295, it is one of the area’s last remaining mills, though the site is closed to the public and can only be viewed from outside. The original mill structure remains, and the surrounding streets make for a pleasant walk. Look for views from different angles, including from the road behind the property, and allow for steep hills as you explore.

A Montmartre mill dating to 1295

The Debray family history dates Le Moulin Blute-Fin to 1295, when Montmartre was less developed. The mill is associated with the area’s windmill history and with the painters Vincent van Gogh and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Renoir painted his work “Bal du moulin de la Galette” here. The property once held two mills, the Blute-Fin and the Radet. The windmill structure is the part that remains original; other buildings on the property are newer.

Viewing the mill from outside

The site is currently closed to the public, so visitors cannot go inside or approach freely. Look for a view from the surrounding road, including behind the property. Foliage can block sightlines, and the mill may be harder to see when trees are in leaf.

The surrounding area is suited to a walk, with steep streets and other old houses to look out for. A smaller windmill stands farther up the road.
